Brief review of the first season of anime show Fire Force. It has pyrokinetic and religious themes.
Fire Force is an anime that is not what I expected because before I started watching the series, I thought it was about a normal fire department in Japan.
Right into action from the first episode, they explain what's happening in this alternate world. People's bodies burst into flames in an unexplained internal combustion, making it the number one cause of death in the city. Of course, there are regular fire departments that deal with fires, but there's another fire department with blue-striped uniforms that deals with the "infernals", people who have caught fire out of nowhere.
The story centers on Shinra, a newly graduated firefighter cadet who is transferred to Fire Station No. 8. He has the ability to summon flames at will and redirect them to his feet, giving him a kind of boost and the ability to fly.
He sees himself as a "hero" although he has a weird smile he can't control when he is anxious and his greatest motivation is to discover the true cause of the appearance of the infernals.
But that's not all. The anime also incorporates Catholic religious elements that are unusual in Japanese culture, as in addition to fighting the infernals, there's also the task of exorcising them and giving them holy salvation.
Many of the members of Company 8 and the other companies are second or third generation Fire Force firefighters and are gradually showing and introducing different characters with special flame control abilities.
The specific mission that Fire Force Company 8 has set for itself is to investigate the other companies, as it is suspected that some members have infiltrated or overstepped their functions or powers when fighting the infernals.
Fire Force is an anime that surprised me greatly with its captivating story. The digital animation is excellent, and I really liked the opening song.
Female characters like Tamaki and the fan service surrounding her also garner the series a lot of fans, although I personally liked Iris, the nun who accompanies Company 8, the most.
The series' story is quite extensive, as the third season is currently airing.
